Making Ice Cream at Home

!±8± Making Ice Cream at Home

Making ice cream at home can be a fun experience for the kids or done simply because your family loves frozen treats and you prefer to make them yourself. There are different ways you can make ice cream depending upon your purpose.

If you want a fun activity for kids, you can make ice cream in a bag. This requires two Ziploc bags, one large and one small. You put the ingredients in the small bag and then place that inside of the large bag. Also add ice and rock salt to the large bag. Now all your child has to do is shake the bag for about five minutes. The shaking part is almost as fun as the eating part. This only makes a serving at a time but it is a fun way to spend time with your kids.

Making ice cream at home can still be done the old fashioned way with a hand crank tub. Many of us have fond memories of making ice cream that way. The frozen treat tasted wonderful even if it was a lot of trouble to make. These work by sitting a metal tub inside of a larger wooden or plastic tub that is filled with ice and rock salt. A paddle attached to a hand crank is placed into the ingredients in the small metal tub. Turning the crank is no easy job, especially as it gets harder. But if you want a taste of the good old days, you can give this a try.

Today, ice cream makers have come a long way. Rock salt and ice are not even required. In fact, human intervention isn't needed except for adding the ingredients into the machine. Making it at home is a lot easier and more enjoyable. It no longer has to be the rare occasion when you could devote an afternoon to the process. You can make a quart in as little as twenty minutes with an electric ice cream maker. All you have to do is add the ingredients and turn it on.

There are many reasons why you would want to make your own at home. For one thing it will save you plenty of money if your family eats a lot of frozen yogurt, ice cream, or sorbet. The quality of the frozen treat you get from an electric style machine is just as good as the gourmet brands you buy at the store. You can ensure the ingredients are all natural since you control what goes into the recipe.

You'll never run out of ideas for different flavors of frozen treats. You can refer to the recipe booklet that comes with your machine or you can look online for more recipes than you could ever make. You can even come up with original ideas of your own. Making ice cream at home is not only economical and healthier; it is a lot of fun too.
